Project 7

A coaching platform for strength and fitness coaches, built on sports science: coaches design programs from a structured exercise library, assign them to their athletes and follow every logged set; athletes train from an installable app and see their progress in numbers.

01

Overview

Project 7 is a coach operating system for bodybuilding and fitness. Coaches are the customer: they bring their own athletes through an invite link, write programs in a builder backed by a structured exercise library, and review every session their athletes log.

It is also where my two disciplines meet: an M.Sc. in Sports Engineering and five years of frontend engineering. Training science is modelled as data, and the interface keeps it usable.

I founded the product and built all of it — product definition, UX, frontend, backend, database and deployment.

02

The Problem

Most coaches deliver programs as chat messages or PDFs and track progress by asking. Nothing connects the program a coach wrote to what the athlete actually lifted, so progression decisions are made from memory.

Generic fitness apps solve the athlete's side and ignore the coach. The gap is a tool built around the coach's workflow: many athletes, many programs, and a clear view of who is progressing and who has stalled.

  • Programs need real training structure — sets, reps, load, RIR, rest — not free text.
  • Athletes log in the gym, often on poor connections, so logging has to be fast and resilient.
  • The product targets Persian-speaking coaches first: right-to-left layout, Persian digits and the Solar Hijri calendar throughout.

03

My Approach

Scope hard, ship in phases. The product was cut to one sport family, one payment path and no in-app chat, and delivered as a roadmap of phases — each one released to production and reviewed before the next began.

Keep one source of truth. Web, admin and API live in one Nx monorepo with a shared, typed API contract, so a change to the data model surfaces as a compile error in every app that depends on it rather than as a bug in production.

One repository, one CI pipeline. Every push runs the checks and the end-to-end suite; migrations run as part of the API build.

Three applications share one typed contract and one database schema, in one repository with one pipeline.
  • Next.js with next-intl for the web app: Persian right-to-left by default, English available, Solar Hijri dates rendered from ISO storage.
  • An installable PWA for athletes, so logging a session works like a native app.
  • NestJS and Prisma on PostgreSQL for the API, with migrations applied automatically as part of the production build.
  • A separate Next.js admin app for verification, subscriptions and payment approval.
  • GitHub Actions CI with end-to-end tests on every push, and continuous deployment of all three apps.
  • Technical SEO built in: canonical URLs, hreflang, sitemap, structured data and generated Open Graph images.

05

My Contribution

  • Defined the product, its positioning and a phased roadmap.
  • Designed the UX and the design system for coaches, athletes and admins.
  • Built the exercise library and program builder, client invites, set logging, progress tracking and a print-ready program export.
  • Built subscriptions with a manual payment-approval flow suited to the local market.
  • Built the API, data model and admin tooling, and set up CI, testing and deployment.

06

Outcome

Six product phases shipped to production in four months: exercise library and builder, clients and invites, logging and progress, workspace and export, subscriptions, and search-engine readiness.

Next on the roadmap: launch readiness, hosting in-region for users in Iran, then rule-based training suggestions — exercise substitutions and load progression — ahead of assisted program drafting.
